Houston We Have a Pattern

Houston We Have a Pattern, a 2026 tetraploid introduction from hybridizer Tom Smoulder, built for gardeners who want both standout patterning and reliable garden performance.

This cultivar rises on 30-inch scapes, giving the blooms excellent visibility above the foliage. Each flower measures 5 inches, opening fully during the day thanks to its diurnal bloom habit. The midseason timing ensures it shines right when the garden is hitting its stride — and with rebloom, you get a second wave of color later in the season.

The bloom itself is a showpiece: beige petals washed with a dramatic purple broken eyezone and a bright greenish-yellow throat. The flower form is single, with clean structure that highlights the patterning. As a semi-evergreen foliage type, it performs well in a wide range of climates. It is not fragrant, making it ideal for gardeners who prefer visual impact without scent.

On the scape, you’ll find 3 branches and 11 buds, giving you a solid run of blooms. Its ploidy is tetraploid, offering strength, vigor, and excellent breeding potential.
